We were pretty naive when we began this trip; no agenda, no schedule except to be home for Thanksgiving. We didn't really think about volcanoes yet some of the most spectacular parks are volcanoes.

We stumbled upon modest but "pure" Capulin, we graduated to the stark, raw beauty of the sites of more recent eruptions like Craters of the Moon and Mount St Helens. It never even occurred to us that Crater Lake and Mt Rainier were also volcanoes. What a variety! How fascinating! And, how utterly different they are from each other!
